Description

In 2021 there were 217 roadway fatalities in Idaho.  You can help bring this number down and save lives.  This workshop shows participants ways to identify road safety issues, implement low-cost safety countermeasures, and reduce fatalities and injuries caused by road departures, collisions with fixed objects and collisions at intersections.  The training also provides examples of low-cost maintenance and safety improvements on the roads.  The importance of road safety, and how it can be integrated into local transportation construction, operations, and maintenance will be stressed.  You will be given numerous actionable items to make your road network safer.  The class will be a fun combination of lecture, discussion, and group activities.  The workshop will cover the following items in detail:

Why is crash reduction important?
Preventing Roadway Departure:  Keeping Vehicles in their Lane
Preventing Roadway Departure:  Vegetation and Sight Lines
Creating a Forgiving Roadside
What to do with Hazards in the Clear Zone
Questions and Course Review
