Description

The Roadway Safety Audit (RSA) is a way for a local roads agency to improve safety and to communicate to the public how they are working toward crash reductions which furthers the effort to eliminate death and serious injury on all roadways in Idaho.

Participants will learn how to improve transportation safety by applying a proactive approach by a qualified audit team that examines a roadway corridor or intersection in order to identify safety deficiencies.

This course includes:
How to recognize roadway corridors or intersections that need to be audited in order to identify potential safety improvements.
Selection of the independent RSA Team and the importance of the proper mixture of team members to represent engineering, enforcement, education and emergency medical services.
Conducting the pre-audit meeting to review project information and data.
Performance of field observations under various traffic and environmental (day and night) conditions.
Conducting the audit analysis and preparation of the audit report.
Presentation of audit findings to the Project Owner and Design Team.
Importance of the Project Owner / Design Team to formally respond.
Incorporation of audit findings into the project when appropriate.

Emphasis is placed on using low cost safety improvements as well as understanding the interaction between the highway and all road users.  The training includes information on each stage of a road safety audit and easy-to-use-prompt lists.
