Description

Erosion and sedimentation of soils can threaten water quality, health and safety of the public and the economy. Pollutants carried by eroded soil and water can contaminate drinking and surface water sources, destroy fish habitat, make recreational surface waters undesirable, and in large amounts, can destroy homes, roads and bridges, and endanger lives. Failure to properly manage project erosion can lead to costly fines and project delays.

The Environmental BMP class trains individuals in the fundamentals of erosion and sediment control planning and practices. This class is focused on roadway maintenance construction activities.

This class includes:
1. Identification and definition of environmental terms
2. An overview of storm water laws and regulations
3. An overview of other environmental laws and regulations
4. Impacts of sedimentation and discussion of prevention and control strategies
5. Group site assessment and planning exercises
6. Hands-on field training in sediment and erosion control BMP installation

An exam will be administered at the end of the class.
